From the 30th of March to the 1st of April, a total of 51 students who are a part of the KYS Orchestra presented a splendid performance entitled “Rhythm of the Quartz” at the KL East Gallery. KYS has invited Syafinaz Selamat, a famous local singer, to sing two songs, Warisan” and “Laskar Pelangi”, to entertain the audience. The aim of this performance is to strengthen the bond between the KYS Education Group and Sime Darby Corporation. Accompanied by Miss Adrin Teo and Mr Ng Kim Suai, the performance was a great success.

The performance on the first day was witnessed by the VIPs from Sime Darby and the Board of Directors from KYS including its founder, Tan Sri Halim Saad. However, the KYS Orchestra faced an unexpected problem as our conductor, Miss Adrin Teo, was feeling unwell and could not conduct the second half of the performance. Fortunately, our concert master, Dania Batrisyia, was able to replace her and successfully led the orchestra despite being under the watchful eyes of teachers and guests. The performance went on smoothly. It goes to show that KYS students have been fully-trained and are well-prepared to play even in the absence of the conductor. Kudos to all of them.
On the 1st of April, parents were invited to watch the performance. Our performance was divided into the morning session and evening session. However, in order to allow the parents to feel the ambiance we felt on the first performance. The second half of both performances would not be conducted by Miss Adrin Teo. We managed to perform well and received a standing ovation from the audience.
“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it.” The bond between each orchestra member is what gives us the power to play perfectly even under pressure. As what we orchestra members say all the time: “Ohana is family and family means no one gets left behind.” Every person in the orchestra plays an important role and the virtue of helping each other has instilled in us and that virtue has helped us achieve success and put on a wonderful performance.
